Movie Review : The Flowers of War

The Flowers of War Movie. After the Japanese captured Shanghai in 1937, they later expanded into areas Nanking colony by killing all those who were in that location. In the midst of the simmering conflict, a funeral officers named John Miller (Christian Bale), caught in a Catholic church with the young nun who tried to take refuge from the threat of Japanese soldiers.
As per the agreement between the two countries war, the Catholic church is known as the neutral location of the conflict situation. Therefore, many civilians who tried to take refuge in the church, including the prostitutes in the region of Nanking. Seeing the situation, the figure of John the indifferent start utilizing state of the taking of property that is in the church, as well as hiring the services of a sexy slut named Yu Mo (Ni ni).
George (Huang Tianyuan) as a mentor of the nuns, at first did not like the indifferent attitude of John. But as John came from Western countries that can not be touched by the Japanese army, George was trying to hold back because considered to be the solution to get out of the city of Nanking. When the Japanese forces broke a promise to break through the church and attempted to rape the nuns, John finally felt compelled to take risks for the sake of rescuing them killed.
The Flowers of War movie with the original title of Jin Ling Shi San Chai's, adapted from the bestselling novel The Gelin, about the tragedy of Nanking is known as the most heartbreaking events in the history of the Chinese nation in the 20th century. According to historical facts, Nanking tragedy claimed the lives of as many as 300 thousand people and 80 thousand women raped. Seeing these dreadful facts, it is no wonder if the movie The Flowers of War showing a lot of scenes that are classified as very sadistic, ranging from murder to rape.
Although this film offers a very tense atmosphere and heartbreaking, but the way the story is actually a lot of the big screen gives a message about the meaning of the meaning of sacrifice and honor as human beings are stateless. It was realized via the character John Miller, Major Li (Tong Dawei), Meng (Cao Kefan), Shujuan Meng (Zhang Xinyi), George, and Yu Mo, which go hand in hand though among them could have saved themselves without care about other people.
Interestingly, a group of prostitutes who had been considered littering the sanctity of the church and be underestimated because it always prioritizes the material, in this film they became caretaker for the safety of the nuns and John Miller. Although the impression of the film is very gripping and suspenseful, but the script of the film is not in accordance with reality. Because there were no survivors of the Nanking area or get out of the area with a lifeless state.
With the character John Miller is in the middle of a conflict between China and Japan, of course, the film contains three different languages. Dialogue in English, Chinese, and Japanese in this film certainly still can be understood with the help of subtitles on the screen cinema.
Overall, the film director Hero (2002) Zhang Yimou, it is interesting to note as it is considered to foster a sense of nationalism and a sense of humanity among others, as well as with others who are different. This film as if to say, 'War is not a solution because both parties to the dispute in the end still going to lose'.
